“While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest… shall not cease.” (Genesis 8:22)

Harvest from the planted seed in the soil of the earth is a decree of God. When the seed is planted, it will bring forth a harvest of fruit.

John 12:24 says,

“Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.”

Of course in this verse, Jesus was speaking of His own death, burial, and resurrection. But Jesus used a physical law of God, set up in Genesis 1:29, to teach a spiritual truth. This physical law remains true as long as the earth remains (Genesis 8:22).

This law applies to our devotion for the Seed Sower. Let it be understood that the Seed Sower did not create the seed; God did that and does that. Nor did the Seed Sower cause the seed to die; nor does he give life to the dead seed; nor does he have the power to produce fruit. This is all God’s business according to His own decrees and power. John 15:4-5 says, “…As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself… without me ye can do nothing.”

But what the Seed Sower does is receive in the harvest the fruit of the seed sown; the produce,; the fruit. Galatians 6:7-8 presents a negative and positive harvest. The harvest is dependent upon the kind of seed sown:

“Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.” (Galatians 6:7)

“For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.” (Galatians 6:8)

Therefore, the Seed Sower needs to know what kind of seed he is sowing. For because of the decree of God in the physical and in the spiritual, there will be a harvest of the seed sown.

However, in this series of devotions on the Importance of the Seed Sower, the Seed is the Word of God. Therefore, there will be a harvest of the Fruit of the Spirit.

The Seed Sower in the plan of God, as stated already, did not create the Seed; also he cannot make the ground “good ground.” Only God can give Seed and give life to the Seed, having prepared the ground and made it “good,” or receptive to the Seed.

But when the Seed Sower sows the right Seed, wherein God sends the Seed, God does His business as Creator and brings forth fruit.

When this happens, the Seed Sower knows:

1)    For this end was he called:

“Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.” (John 15:16)

2)    He knows that God has ordained this fruit to remain; for within the fruit is seed to restart the cycle all over again (Genesis 1:29).

3)    He knows the design of God is that the branch which abides in Christ will bring forth fruit, more fruit, and much fruit (John 15:1-10).

4)    He knows when the branch abides in Christ and much fruit is produced in that individual, then the Father is glorified (John 15:8).

5)    The Seed Sower also knows that when the branch does as Christ taught of abiding in Him (John 15:1-10); then:

“These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.” (John 15:11)

Then with this understanding, one can see the importance of the Seed Sower by the produce (or fruit, or harvest) that is produced by God.

This should encourage all of God’s called Seed Sowers of the Word of God. Knowing that you have an ordained role in God’s process of producing fruit, you are to be a Messenger of the Kingdom of God. You are a Proclaimer of the Good News of Jesus Christ. You are a Delivery Man, bringing the milk (the Word of God) to the door every day. You are an Advertising Agent working for God.

You know Salvation is in Christ and in Him alone. But you also know that God ordained that His called men, His chosen men, His converted men, have the authority to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Not to give life. (God forbid that any Seed Sower thought he was used to give life. No, see John 6:63.) But like the Apostle Paul says:

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.” (Romans 1:16)

“For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.” (Romans 1:17)

The Seed Sower knows that the Gospel of Christ, which he preaches, reveals (not creates, but reveals) the “righteousness of God … from faith (or ‘out of’ as to source, the Source is The Faith Himself, Christ) to faith (or ‘because of’ Faith)”

That is, the Seed Sower knows The Faith (Christ), which he preaches, reveals The Faith internally in the sinner. Whereby the Righteousness of God (who is Christ; Romans 10:4) is revealed to be in the sinner by regeneration.

The Seed Sower knows the harvest will be the fruit of the Spirit:

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,” (Galatians 5:22)

“Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.” (Galatians 5:23)

The importance of the entire story of the Seed Sower is defined in the story in Acts 8:26-39. Philip was sent by the Spirit to preach to the Ethiopian who had been to Jerusalem to worship God, and was returning home, and sitting in his chariot reading Isaiah 53:1-12.

The Seed Sower did not set the stage; God did. The Seed Sower did not create the desire in the Ethiopian to go to Jerusalem to worship; nor cause him to read Isaiah 53; nor cause him to want to know of whom the prophet Isaiah referred.

But when the Ethiopian asked Philip to join him and to explain to him; then God’s chosen, called, and sent Seed Sower went to work:

“And the eunuch answered Philip, and said, I pray thee, of whom speaketh the prophet this? of himself, or of some other man?” (Acts 8:34)

“Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus.” (Acts 8:35)

In Acts 8:36-39, the Gospel of Isaiah 53 did its work and manifested that the Ethiopian did have Righteousness implanted in him, which he proved by vocal confession of Jesus as the Son of God. And he then proved it by the obedience of water baptism (verses 37-39).

Be encouraged Seed Sowers of God’s Word. The produce that you see manifested will bless you and allow you to see – Yes, you are important to God; for the nature of the fruit will tell the story.
